Broadcasting on 98.1 in Barbados, The One carries the latest in soca, dancehall, hip hop and urban music. Its year is shaped by Crop Over, which began as a celebration marking the end of the sugar cane harvest, lapsed, and was revived in the 1970s as a national festival — it builds through the summer and climaxes in early August with Grand Kadooment. Barbadian soca tends to run faster and more insistently than the Trinidadian variety, built for the particular demands of that road.
