RVR Jamz

A Dominican station promoting local artists alongside urban music and reggae. That focus matters on an island that has invented two genres despite a population of about 70,000 — cadence-lypso in the 1970s, and bouyon in the late 1980s, which combined the traditional jing ping accordion-and-shak-shak sound with cadence, soca and electronic production. Bouyon has since spread across the Eastern Caribbean and remains Dominica's most significant musical export, and stations that back local recordings are much of how it travels.
