NTN Radio 89.1 Georgetown

🇬🇾 Guyana
East Indian

A Georgetown station built around Indo-Guyanese programming: chutney and chutney-soca, Bollywood playback music, bhajans and devotional broadcasting, with news and community content alongside. Indo-Guyanese music descends from what indentured labourers brought from Bhojpuri-speaking northern India in the nineteenth century — wedding songs, folk forms and devotional singing — reworked over generations into something distinctly Caribbean. The dholak and the dhantal, a metal rod struck with a horseshoe-shaped striker, still supply the characteristic pulse. NTN's schedule follows the Hindu calendar closely, with extended programming around Phagwah and Diwali, both of which are national public holidays in Guyana observed well beyond the Hindu population.
