🇦🇮 Anguilla
An Anguillian station carrying soca, reggae and community programming for an island of around 15,000 people. Anguilla's calendar is unlike anywhere else in the region because its national sport is boat racing — not a metaphor, but hand-built wooden sloops of a distinctive local pattern, raced with large crews and enormous sail area, launched off the beach. The tradition grew out of the schooner trade, when Anguillian seamen sailed for work and raced each other home. Each boat has a following that behaves rather like a football supporters' club, and the August Monday race off Sandy Ground is the biggest day in the Anguillian year — a carnival organised around a regatta, which is not a description that fits anywhere else.
