Irie FM

One of the most significant radio stations in Caribbean history. Launched at the start of the 1990s and broadcasting from Ocho Rios, Irie FM was the first station anywhere in the world devoted entirely to reggae, at a time when Jamaican FM radio still leaned heavily on foreign music. It changed what Jamaican radio was expected to sound like, and it remains the international reference point for the genre. The programming spans roots, rocksteady, lovers rock and current dancehall, with the specialist shows and selector sets that made its reputation.
