HJ94.1 Boom FM Georgetown

One of Guyana's most listened-to stations, broadcasting from Georgetown. Boom FM programmes heavily for the Indo-Guyanese audience — chutney, chutney-soca, Bollywood playback music and devotional recordings — alongside soca, reggae and local Guyanese output. That mix reflects the country itself: Guyana is roughly split between people of Indian and African descent, and its radio moves between those traditions in a way that has no real equivalent elsewhere in the Caribbean. The station's calendar follows the national one closely, turning toward devotional and classical programming for Phagwah in the spring and Diwali in the autumn, and toward soca for Mashramani in late February. For the very large Guyanese diaspora — concentrated in Richmond Hill in Queens, and in Toronto and London — stations like this one carry music and language that are heard almost nowhere else.
