🇩🇲 Dominica
Caribbean Music

A Dominican station carrying bouyon, soca, reggae and the wider Creole-Caribbean mix. Dominica has invented two genres, which is remarkable for a population of about 70,000: cadence-lypso in the 1970s, and bouyon in the late 1980s — fast, dense and unmistakable, combining the island's traditional jing ping accordion-and-shak-shak music with cadence, soca and electronic production. Bouyon has since spread across the Eastern Caribbean and remains Dominica's most significant musical export. The station's year peaks in late October with the World Creole Music Festival, one of the few festivals anywhere organised around a language rather than a genre.
