🇧🇧 Barbados
A service of the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation, the Barbadian national broadcaster, carrying music and programming for a general island audience. Barbados has its own musical inheritance beyond the calypso and soca it shares with the region: spouge, created in the 1960s by Jackie Opel by combining Jamaican ska with Trinidadian calypso and a distinctive cowbell-driven pulse, belongs to Barbados alone. Tuk band music — bass drum, kettle drum and penny whistle, descended from British military bands and reworked into something unmistakably Bajan — still turns up around national holidays and through Crop Over.
