Bahamian or Nuttin
🇧🇸 The Bahamas
A station with its position in the name: Bahamian music, or nothing. It programmes the archipelago's own output — Junkanoo-derived rhythms, rake-and-scrape, goombay and contemporary Bahamian recordings — against a dial where American formats are readily available and heavily listened to. Rake-and-scrape is the more remarkable of those traditions: a carpenter's handsaw bent and scraped with a screwdriver, alongside a goatskin drum and an accordion, with Cat Island as its heartland. It remains functional dance music at weddings and gatherings rather than a preserved curiosity, and stations like this one are much of the reason it stays audible.
