Alpha Boys School Radio

The station of Alpha Boys School in Kingston, the institution that taught music to boys in its care and produced an extraordinary share of Jamaica's greatest players — among them the trombonist Don Drummond and the saxophonist Tommy McCook, both central to the Skatalites and therefore to ska itself. The stream reflects that inheritance, moving through ska, rocksteady, roots reggae, jazz and the brass-led sound the school's alumni helped invent. It is one of the few Caribbean stations whose programming is inseparable from its own history, and listening to it is a direct line back to where Jamaican popular music was formed.
